As with other RPGs, Elden Ring's absence from a quest log makes players concentrate on dialogue and their surroundings to follow along with specific NPC storylines. But the beginning of Elden Ring Runes one questline was well-hidden that FromSoftware made steps to ensure that people would naturally gravitate towards it.
Boc The Seamster is easy to overlook. He is first seen in Limgrave the area where everyone's Elden Ring adventure begins, but I've never seen him at all during my ongoing, 100-hour playthrough. Boc can be disguised in the form of a plant when the first time you meet him. He at the time of the game's launch Boc only yelled out to players who are passing by Tarnished after they had climbed close enough to his grill. He's very well hidden, in fact, that I've seen players go close enough to start Boc's vague dialogue, scour the surrounding area for the source, and ultimately quit without seeing his camouflage.
As shown in the bite-sized Illusory Wall video above, last month's massive update increased the distance at the point that Boc begins to make calls in the direction of Elden Ring players. This makes it so that adventurers sticking to landmarks are able to be able to hear Boc from the cobblestone road that is nearby without the need to travel into the grassy wilds surrounding it.
FromSoftware even added a rare, purple-tinted item drop in the area to tempt Tarnished to explore further the area in which Boc is hiding. But it's up to the players to figure out the best way to strike or get into Boc's bush to unveil the man.
Now, you're probably asking yourself if Boc's storyline is worth all this effort. The answer is contingent on what you'd like to get from Elden Ring. Regarding benefits, I'd say no because everything Boc can provide for you (i.e. alter your clothes) you already can do yourself at the Sites of Grace checkpoints after finding the requisite key items. However, if you're seeking a traditionally heartbreaking Souls story, look no further than this bizarre dude.
Boc is described as an unusual case. It's a demon-human, a species of ape-like, typically violent creatures that have likely been killed in thousands before finding him, but one that is able to think and talk like a human. If you come across Boc, he's recently been removed from a demi-human den located on the shores of Limgrave, and is willing to go back to the den to secure you a reward to help reclaim him from being a shrub. The situation isn't going so well for him. However, when you go in to challenge the boss, you'll be able to find his personal sewing kit. Bring it back to Boc and he'll become your personal seamster, customizing your wardrobe at no cost.
What follows is a sad story of Boc's struggles to accept his appearance and the various ways you can aid him in coming to terms with his situation in life, either for the better or worse. Let me show you these options for yourself, remember that beauty is in the eye of the viewer.
It's been said before, but I'll say it once more: Elden Ring is massive. It's unlikely that anyone will uncover all the secrets of the game in just one session. Even if you've reached the triple digits during your time, I encourage you to jump back in and see what else there is to discover, especially as the devs continue to add on to the game and make changes to Elden Ring Runes for sale existing content.
